Drake’s Pulls Fan Fest Sponsorship

Last Dive Bar is claiming that Drake’s Brewery has pulled the brewery’s sponsorship of their Fan Fest, only three days before the Oakland, California bar’s event.

We have some unfortunate news and are disappointed to announce Drake’s Brewery has pulled their sponsorship, only three days before Fans Fest. LDB/68’s have incurred expenses purchasing sponsor banners, a digital marketing package and had rented equipment to set up a Drakes beer booth but are now left with no Drakes beer to serve and banners we will have to be recreated and printed just days before the event. They were our first beer sponsor, and we were so thrilled to announce them. The announcement of their support and sponsorship of Fans’ Fest was very well received by the Oakland 68’s and Last Dive Bar’s combined 30k+ followers across social media platforms. Unfortunately to see that support not come to fruition is very, very disheartening. These fans don’t deserve another beloved “community favorite” turning their backs on them.

That last line is surely a reference to the Oakland Athletics Major League Baseball team. The Fans Fest event is a collaboration with Oakland 68s, an independent Oakland baseball supporters group who have been critical of the Athletics management of the team and plans to move the team to Las Vegas. The 68s have also welcomed a new Oakland-based independent team, the Oakland Ballers of the Pioneer Baseball League.

Losing the brewery as a sponsor leaves the event short on beer and scrambling to replace marketing materials.

People were left to speculate that the Athletics were somehow involved with the reversal by Drake’s Brewery. Drake’s beer is served at Athletics games in Oakland Coliseum.

Last Dive Bar responded to request for comment “They simply said ‘unforseen circumstances’ but that sounds fishy to us.”
