Tröegs Independent Brewing has introduced Double Perpetual IPA, a new addition to its lineup, offering an intensified version of the popular Perpetual IPA. This Double IPA, with an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 9.5%, is part of the Hershey, Pennsylvania-based brewery’s Once-a-Year series, which also features well-known beers like Mad Elf, Nugget Nectar, and Nimble Giant.
Double Perpetual IPA is crafted using a variety of hops, including Cascade, Chinook, Nugget, and Citra, creating a robust West Coast-style ale with distinct flavors of citrus, tropical fruit, and pine.
This new release originated from Tröegs’ Scratch Series, a small-batch brewing initiative. Initially introduced as Scratch #500 last year, the beer quickly gained popularity, selling out on its first day of availability.
According to John Trogner, Tröegs brewmaster and co-founder, the Scratch Series, which began in 2007 to mark the brewery’s 10th anniversary, has been instrumental in developing new beers. It has served as a testing ground for potential seasonal and year-round offerings, including the original Perpetual IPA, which is now one of Tröegs’ most recognized beers.
Double Perpetual IPA, taking inspiration from Perpetual IPA, has already made its mark as Pennsylvania’s best-selling craft beer, according to market research firm Circana. The new Double IPA is available on draft and in 16-ounce cans throughout the brewery’s distribution network.
